Is Social Media Ruining Your Marriage?
Video overview: If your wife is buried in her phone, or some video about women has left you angry, confused, or hopeless about your marriage, this conversation will help you slow down. Social media may be part of the problem, but the bigger question is what you do with the fear, resentment, and helplessness it brings up in you.

It’s very easy to blame the phone.

She’s sitting there scrolling. You’re sitting across the room feeling ignored. You want to connect, but she seems more interested in whatever is happening on a screen than what’s happening between the two of you.

That hurts.

And if you’ve already been feeling lonely, rejected, criticized, or unimportant in the marriage, that little glowing rectangle can start to feel like the enemy. It becomes the thing taking her away from you. The thing filling her head with ideas. The thing making her colder, more dissatisfied, more distracted, or less interested in being with you.

Then you watch a few videos online about why women behave the way they do.

Maybe some of them make sense. Maybe some of them hit too close to home. Maybe some of them make you angry. Maybe they give you a rush of “Aha, that’s what she’s doing,” and now you’re walking around the house with a new theory about your wife instead of a cleaner, calmer way to lead yourself.

I get why this happens.

Social media can get under your skin because it feeds the part of you that is already scared. It gives you explanations when you feel powerless. It gives you villains when you feel hurt. It gives you certainty when your marriage feels confusing.

But here’s the problem.

That kind of certainty can make a man weaker if he isn’t careful.

He starts watching his wife like a detective. He starts interpreting every glance at her phone as proof of something. He starts collecting evidence. He starts comparing his relationship to clips, comments, stories, strangers, and half-truths from people who don’t know him, his wife, his history, or the real emotional climate in his home.

And now he’s not leading.

He’s reacting.

That’s the part we want to talk about in this video.

Dan, Jeff, Garrett, and I all know what it’s like to be affected by the noise out there. We’re not pretending we’re above it. We’re men too. We know how easily a sharp video, a comment thread, or a certain kind of online relationship advice can stir up anger, fear, judgment, or resentment.

But the healthier question is not, “Is social media ruining my marriage?”

The healthier question is, “What is this bringing up in me, and what kind of man do I want to be with it?”

Because even if your wife is on her phone too much, even if social media is affecting the way she thinks, even if there are unhealthy influences around your relationship, you still have to decide who you are going to be in response.

You can become the suspicious man.

You can become the resentful man.

You can become the man who hides behind videos, theories, and labels instead of having honest, grounded conversations.

Or you can become the man who gets curious, clear, and strong.

That doesn’t mean you ignore reality. It doesn’t mean you pretend the phone is harmless if it’s obviously replacing connection. It doesn’t mean you never talk about boundaries, attention, intimacy, or the way technology is affecting your home.

But it does mean you stop letting the internet turn you into a smaller, more reactive version of yourself.

Most men don’t need more reasons to be angry.

They need a better relationship with their own thinking.

They need to notice when they’re spiraling. They need to catch themselves when they’re using online content to confirm their worst fears. They need to stop feeding resentment and start asking what kind of relationship they actually want to create.

That’s the inside game.

The outside game says, “If she would just put the phone down, I’d feel better.”

The inside game says, “What am I feeling right now? What am I making this mean? What do I want to say clearly? What boundary might I need to set? What invitation might I need to make? What part of me is waiting for her behavior to give me permission to feel strong again?”

That’s where your power is.

Not in controlling her phone.

Not in winning an argument about social media.

Not in proving that some video was right about women.

Your power is in becoming the kind of man who can see what’s happening without collapsing into fear, blame, or bitterness.

This conversation will help you think about the whole thing in a cleaner way. Social media may be affecting your marriage, yes. But the bigger danger is letting it affect your mind so much that you stop showing up as the man you actually want to be.

You don’t have to be naive.

You don’t have to be passive.

But you also don’t have to let every video, every scroll, every silence, and every phone in the room decide your emotional state.

There’s a stronger way to handle this.

And it starts with getting back in charge of you.

Get out of the spiral

If social media, phone use, or online advice has stirred up fear and resentment in your marriage, we can help you slow down and see what’s really happening. You don’t have to become suspicious or powerless — you can become clearer, calmer, and stronger in how you respond.
