Can You Train To Be A Confident Masculine Man?
Video overview: If you’ve been trying to become a more confident man by doing everything alone, you may be making the work much harder than it needs to be. There is something powerful that happens when good men sit together, tell the truth, challenge each other and refuse to let each other stay small. This conversation is about why mentors, brotherhood and initiated men can change the direction of your life.

Most men I talk to are not lazy.

They’re not weak. They’re not sitting around waiting for life to hand them something. They’re working hard, thinking hard, providing, protecting, solving problems and trying to be good men.

But a lot of them are also lonely.

Not lonely in the obvious way. They may have a wife, kids, friends, coworkers and people around them all day long. But inside, they don’t have many men who really know them.

They don’t have men who can look them in the eye and say, “Brother, you’re hiding right now.”

They don’t have men who can hear the whole messy truth without flinching. They don’t have men who will challenge their excuses without shaming them. They don’t have men who have already walked through the fire and can say, “I know where you are, and I know the way forward.”

That kind of connection changes a man.

In this conversation, Dan and I talk about the value of having initiated men and mentors in your life. I use that word intentionally. I’m not talking about casual buddies, drinking friends, golf partners or guys who just agree with everything you say.

I’m talking about men who have done real inner work.

Men who have faced their fear, their insecurity, their anger, their shame, their neediness, their collapse, their control patterns and their self-doubt. Men who are no longer pretending they have it all figured out, but who are also not using their pain as an excuse to stay stuck.

Those men are rare.

And when you find them, you feel it.

You stop feeling like you have to carry everything by yourself. You stop trying to get your emotional strength from your wife. You stop expecting your relationship to be the only place where you feel seen, respected, wanted and understood.

That’s a big one.

A lot of men unknowingly put far too much weight on their wife. They want her to be lover, therapist, best friend, cheerleader, spiritual guide, confidence builder and emotional stabilizer. Then they wonder why she pulls away or starts to feel burdened.

Your woman cannot initiate you into mature masculine confidence.

She may love you. She may want the best for you. She may respect your growth. But she does not want to be responsible for turning you into the man you came here to become.

That work belongs with you.

And a large part of that work belongs with other men.

This is something modern men have largely lost. We were never meant to figure out our confidence, purpose, sexuality, emotional strength and leadership all alone in our heads. We were meant to be witnessed by other men. We were meant to be tested by other men. We were meant to learn from men ahead of us and support the men walking beside us.

When that is missing, a man can become successful on the outside and very unsure on the inside.

He may know how to run a business, manage a team, build a career or keep a household together. But when his wife withdraws affection, when she criticizes him, when the sex disappears, when the marriage feels unstable, he suddenly feels like a boy again.

He starts second-guessing everything.

He starts asking, “What do I say? What do I do? How do I make her happy? How do I stop messing this up?”

And without strong men around him, he often goes deeper into fear, resentment or overthinking.

That’s why this conversation matters.

Because when high quality men get together, they do more than give advice. They create a different field. They create a place where you can remember who you are. You hear your own truth come out of your mouth. You watch other men face the exact fears you thought were only yours. You realize you’re not broken, and you’re not as alone as you thought.

Then the challenge begins.

Because good men will not let you stay in victim mode for long. They will care about you, but they will not pity you. They will understand your pain, but they will not let you use it as a reason to abandon yourself.

They will ask better questions.

What do you really want? What are you afraid to say? Where are you betraying yourself? What are you waiting for her to give you before you decide to become the man you already know you could be?

That kind of support can feel uncomfortable, but it is also deeply relieving.

Because part of you has been waiting for someone to tell you the truth with love.

Not criticism. Not judgment. Not some macho performance. Just truth.

You can become more confident. You can create more passion, fulfillment and intimacy in your life. But you probably won’t do it by reading another book, watching another video or thinking about it at two in the morning while your wife sleeps beside you.

You need men.

You need mirrors. You need mentors. You need brothers who are also choosing growth over comfort, honesty over image, and courage over resentment.

This episode is an invitation to stop pretending you should already know how to do all this.

You were never taught most of this stuff.

Nobody sat you down as a young man and showed you how to stay open-hearted when you feel rejected. Nobody taught you how to lead without controlling, desire without chasing, speak truth without collapsing, or stay steady when the woman you love is upset with you.

But you can learn.

And when you learn it around other men, something inside you settles.

You stop trying to prove you’re a good man.

You start becoming a grounded one.

That is where confidence begins.

Find strong men to walk with

If you’re tired of carrying this alone, we’d be glad to talk with you. You don’t need to be in crisis to get support — sometimes the strongest move a man can make is to stop doing his inner work in isolation.
